Want to know more about restorative yoga…
Spiritual restorative yoga is the art of letting go. Letting go of stress, old belief patterns and energetic blocks that hold you from being in flow with the universe. It fuel’s and restore’s the bodies energy. Restorative yoga is unlike anything I have tried for eliminating stress from the body both unknown and known. It will also break through many blocks that are stuck in our physical and nonphysical energy field.
When most people think of yoga they think of warrior poses and stretching however when it comes to restorative yoga that is not the right track. The aim of restorative yoga is to create rest and ease within your body, which for many people they carry more stress within the body then they are even aware of. The Restorative yoga postures gently open us to encourage greater energy flow but this can best be achieved by sending a message of comfort, safety to the body. When every joint is supported, the body receives this as a message of kindness and responds, ahh…I am safe to soften, safe to relax. This is the support the bodies suffering from stress and exhaustion need the most.
Restorative yoga is all about deep relaxation and to engage the parasympathetic nervous system which controls the relaxation response in our body. The relaxation response returns the body’s resources toward the digestive system which is a big deal since our gut causes a lot of issues in our body, but also the brain balance needed to maintain healthy brain wave. Once our fight and flight response returns under control, the true power of our brains become accessible. When we are stressed or exhausted it is our bodies way of telling us we are taxing our adrenals and need to restore the energy, restorative yoga is an amazing way to restore the bodies depleted resources.
Sleep alone, won’t help a tired & depleted soul.
Restorative yoga works like this. we go through the body to shed stress in our bodily tissue by placing the body in different passive poses, moving the spine in all directions, one pose at a time by propping oneself up with blankets, pillows, blocks, and bolsters in order to simulate the state where we feel weightless, comfortable and supported.
By completely supporting the body and being still for extended periods, the breath, mind, and the nervous system begins to calm, When calm, our breath starts to break up into pauses, inhalation pause, and exhalation pauses. Then the mind starts to slow down and after minutes in floating state, the body goes limp since the poses have helped us to dissolve accumulated tension and stress around the joints. That will result in the tissues being less contracted and will fire off a signal via the nerves through the spinal cord to our brain that there is no danger and no need for stress hormones being injected into our being. The brain then responds by reducing stress hormones, even more, enhancing hormones of opposite characters to lower the contraction in the arteries and veins so the blood can flow faster and more freely. Deep tension embedded in our tissues can start to dissolve and our system begin’s to replenish. Then the mind quiets and we experience less mind chatter. All is an absolutely amazing experience for a tired and exhausted body.
The mind can instead be used in a different way. The eyes and ears can be internal vision and hearing, picking up the signals from the vibration of the systems in our bodies working better together. We can then start to see what we can do with what we have, & our bodies ability to help us heal when supported.
